EUGENE, Ore. -- An Oregon man has had an Awesome name change.

Douglas Allen Smith Jr. says he changed his name to Captain Awesome last month because he was inspired by the nickname of a character on the NBC television show "Chuck" - Dr. Devon "Captain Awesome" Woodcomb.

The unemployed Eugene cabinet installer says he found it funny Woodcomb's father gave him that nickname because a "poor nickname builds good character."

The former Mr. Smith says he faced a Lane County judge who questioned his seriousness. The judge that granted the request made him swear he wasn't changing his name for fraudulent reasons.

Awesome says that judge also allowed him to sign his name as a right arrow, a smiley face and a left arrow.

The Boston Bruins Extend there winning streak to 10 games last night over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Manny Fernandez stopped 30shots last night in the 4-2 win keeping him undefeated at home 9-0-0.
Bostons goals were scored by David Krejci(14th), P.J. Axelsson(2nd), Milan Lucic(11th) and Marc Savard(13th).
Dustin Jeffrey scored his first NHL goal, and Ruslan Fedotenko scored the second goal Pittsburgh.
With the Bruins taking a 2 game home and home sweep over the Penguins they are now in First place over all in the NHL with 62 points and thats one point more than Joe Thortons San Jose Sharks.

The Bruins Next Home game is Sat 1/3 Against the Buffalo Sabers, game time is 1pm

NHL's Dallas Stars Sean Avery Suspended......

Sean Avery has been handed a suspension! The National Hockey League has suspended Sean Avery, indefinitely, allegedly for Avery’s comments about Dion Phaneuf and actress Elisha Cuthbert. Avery’s suspension is an obvious blow to the Dallas Stars’ for which Sean is a forward.

The NHL cites “conduct detrimental to the league or game of hockey.”

So what did Avery say?

Avery reportedly made a comment about the Calgary Flames’ Dion Phaneuf and his former girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert, unprovoked, prior to a recent game between the two teams.

He reportedly approached, asked if a TSN camera was recording, and without fielding a question, said the following:

“I’m really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada. I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy s — s. I don’t know what that’s about, but enjoy the game tonight.”

The official statement by the league: “inappropriate public comments, not pertaining to the game” without reference to which comment it was.

Paula Abdul found Ex Idol Contestent Dead in Driveway

A car with a dead woman inside found parked outside Paula Abdul's house in Los Angeles on Tuesday night is registered to Paula Goodspeed, a former American Idol contestant and self-described "really big fan" of Abdul.

Police have not confirmed the identity of the woman – an apparent suicide victim – but suggested she was an infatuated fan of Abdul.

The woman's car featured a license plate "ABL LV" and had a photo of Abdul hanging from the rear view mirror, according to Fox News video taken at the scene. A DMV check of the license showed that the car was registered to Goodspeed, 30.

"This has been ruled an apparent suicide," said LAPD officer April Harding, "and the coroner's office is now investigating. The body was found around 6 p.m. Tuesday."

Abdul was at the studio at the time the body was found and wasn't aware of it until she was told by the network, her rep says.

The "invention" of language is not known except for references in the Bible. It is not known what language Adam and Eve spoke. The first mention of different languages is the reference to the tower of Babel when different tongues were bestowed.

The invention of writing, however, is credited to the Sumerians of Mesopotamia in the 4th millennium BC. Their descendants, the Sumero-Babylonians, developed the time system that we use today: an hour divided into 60 minutes, which are divided into 60 seconds.

Today, there are more than 2 700 different languages spoken in the world, with more than 7 000 dialects. In Indonesia alone, 365 different languages are spoken. More than 1,000 different languages are spoken in Africa. The most difficult language to learn is Basque, which is spoken in north-western Spain and south-western France. It is not related to any other language in the world. Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world, followed by English. But as home language, Spanish is the second most spoken in the world.

Ralph H. Baer started development of the "Brown Box" console video game system and several other prototypes in 1966 for the defense-electronics company Sanders Associates in Nashua, New Hampshire (now part of BAE Systems). In 1971, it was licensed to Magnavox, and after being renamed Magnavox Odyssey, the console was released to the public in 1972. For a time it was Sanders' most profitable line, though many in the company looked down on game development.

Baer created the first light gun and game for home television use, sold grouped with a game expansion pack for the Odyssey, and collectively known as the Shooting Gallery.[2] The light gun itself was the first peripheral for a video game console.

He is now partnered with Bob Pelovitz of MicroPROS Technology Solutions, and they have been inventing and marketing toy and game ideas since 1983.[2] In 2006, Baer donated all his hardware prototypes and documents to the Smithsonian.[3]

In the mid-1800s, Eberhard Anheuser was a successful manufacturer of soap and candles in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. In 1859, he financed a loan to a struggling neighbourhood brewery called The Bavarian Brewery, which was started by George Schneider in 1852. When the brewery faltered again in 1860, Anheuser and a partner, William O'Dench, bought the interests of minority creditors rather than see the brewery go under. They reorganised the company and resumed production under the name E. Anheuser & Company.

The partnership
In 1857, the 18-year old Adolphus Busch, the second youngest of 22 children, immigrated to the United States from Germany to join his 3 brothers in St. Louis. Although his brother had started the John B. Busch Brewing Company in Washington, Missouri, Adolphus opted to enter into a partnership with Ernst Wattenberg to sell brewing supplies. It was through this business that Adolphus met his wife, whose father would be his future partner. Adolphus Busch and Lily Anheuser married in 1861. In 1865, the two beer companies merged, with Adolphus as equal partner with Eberhard Anheuser.

Budweiser beer
In 1876, Busch and his friend Carl Conrad, a liquor importer, developed a "Bohemian-style" lager, inspired after a trip to the region. Brewers in Bohemia generally named a beer after their town with the suffix "er." Beers produced in the town of Plzen, for example, were called Plzners, or Pilsners. Busch and Conrad had visited another town, only 104 km (65 miles) south of Plzenalso, known for its breweries: Bömische Budweis, which became Ceske Budejovice in 1918. Beer has been brewed in Ceske Budejovice since it was founded as Budiwoyz by king Premys II Otakar in 1245. The German name for the town is Budweis. The name "Budweiser" is a locative, meaning "of Budweis."

The beer recipes from Budweis were carried around the world - including by Busch and Conrad - and in the late 1800s there were several breweries producing beers called Budweiser. Miller and Schlitz both produced Budweisers but, as the name became so strongly associated with Anheuser-Busch, they stopped it. In the US the last other Budweiser producer was DuBois Brewing, which stopped making the brand only in the late 1970s.

The American Bud
Busch and Conrad introduced "Budweiser Lager Beer" in St. Louis, brewed by E. Anheuser Co.'s Brewing Association, and bottled and distributed by Carl Conrad. The Anheuser company was renamed Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association in 1879, and Adolphus became president the following year, a position he was to hold for 33 years. On 24 January 1883, Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association acquired the rights in the US to bottle and sell Budweiser. In 1919, the company was renamed Anheuser-Busch, the name by which it is known today. In 1997, the Anheuser-Busch annual worldwide beer volume exceeded 100 million barrels, confirming its position as the world's largest brewer.

Twitter is a micro-blogging site that you can access through a wide variety of programs. It's great because you write mini-blog entries and then read other blog entries. You can find an amazing selection of people to follow as well as Twitter accounts for newspapers, groups, products, politicians, and celebrities. The benefit to this is that you can get up-to-the-minute updates especially if your phone can run a Twitter program (if not you can be notified by txt message). The Red Sox have several accounts on Twitter and the main difference is how much information you would like. There's an account for play-by-play game information and another for an information overload. Check it out and see if it's for you. If you need any help getting it set up let me know.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Airs Thursdays, 10/9c on FX

Episodes: “Manhunters;” “The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis;” “America’s Next Top Paddy’s Billboard Model;”
“Mac’s Banging the Waitress.”

Synopsis: In the first four episodes of the new season, the gang covers a myriad of topics ranging from hunting homeless people to torture to cashing in on viral videos. We get loads of racism towards Arabs, Puerto Ricans, Asians, African-Americans and Texas Oilmen. We get cannibalism played for laughs and more mentions of the word “bang” (mostly by Mac) than you’ll ever hear in under two hours. And not to mention tea-baggings, bed-wettings, pube-glueings, and goody-kickings. Frank (Danny DeVito) keeps confusing his lifestory with that of John Rambo’s and even tortures Sweet Dee (Kaitlin Olsen) at one point. Charlie (Charlie Day) and Dee become obsessed with the taste of human flesh before creating YouTube videos in which GreenMan makes a triumphant return. Dennis (Glenn Howerton) takes his shirt of a lot and there’s allusions to his testicles being scary. Mac (Rob McElhenney) not only hosts a version of “America’s Next Top Model” at Paddy’s, but also his own “Bachelor” and “Project Badass.” Rickety Cricket and the Waitress also return in supporting roles.

Review: With a show as edgy and fearless as Sunny, you always root for the jokes and the situations to remain fresh. Well I can say, as a long-time fan and admirer of the show, that the first four episodes of Season 4 are among the series’ best. The gang is firing on all cylinders. Dee and Charlie as conflicted cannibals is the funniest thing the two have done since Season 2 when they were both hopped up on steroids (”Hundred Dollar Baby”). When the two of them get access to the morgue, the discussion about white meat vs. dark meat is about as good as anything Trey Parker could come up with. When edgy shows get comfortable and settle, the results start to dip, but It’s Always Sunny is still finding ways to top itself.

One thing that’s helped the series this season is that there’s much less bickering. In the first episode “Manhunters,” no idea, no matter how crazy it may be, is rejected. Dennis and Mac are totally stoked about how hard Dennis’ nipples are, and Dee and Charlie are all about trying more human flesh–no arguments, more laughs. In improv, the number one rule is to always say “yes” in a scene. You waste time with fights and bickering in comedy, because all we want to see, as the audience, is the action move forward. The show’s least funny episodes were when the gang spends the entire episode bitching at each other. But when they just accept the circumstances of the scene and move on, we’re free to watch them play effortlessly off each other. I will say that it’s quite shocking to see in “Mac’s Banging the Waitress” that Frank and Dee are not even involved in the episode at all. The three guys and the waitress have an entire episode where they backstab each other and re-establish their friendship at the same time. And although Dee and Frank are missed, watching the three characters and the Waitress (Mary Elizabeth Ellis, aka Mrs. Charlie Day) interact is comedic gold. No one plays dramatic deception better than Howerton, naivete better than McElhenney, and drunken lunatic better than Day. These guys are at the top of their game. It’s Always Sunny was already up there with the funniest shows on television, but if the rest of the season is as good as these four episodes, Sunny will easily top 30 Rock and The Office as television’s best comedy.

Why does Munich hold its Oktoberfest in September? The wedding party was such a success that it was celebrated again in 1812 in commemoration of the royal wedding.

The wedding reception blossomed into a two-week open-air festival that was so well received it became an annual event. Each year additional exhibits were added until it became the major annual German fall festival celebrating harvest time and the arrival of the fall season.

Traditionally festivities in Munich begin on the second to last Saturday in September and end the first Sunday in October. During the 14-day event, over 7 million visitors drink a copious 14 million liters of beer. They also consume more than 300,000 pairs of pork sausages, 600,000 roasted chickens and more than 60,000 roasted pork knuckles.

Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati is recognized as the world’s second-largest authentic Oktoberfest. In fact, the mayor of Munich annually decrees Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati as the largest in the world outside of his domain.

Sometimes I send messages I shouldn't send. Like the time I told that girl I had a crush on her over text message. Or the time I sent that late night email to my ex-girlfriend that we should get back together. Gmail can't always prevent you from sending messages you might later regret, but today we're launching a new Labs feature I wrote called Mail Goggles which may help.

When you enable Mail Goggles, it will check that you're really sure you want to send that late night Friday email. And what better way to check than by making you solve a few simple math problems after you click send to verify you're in the right state of mind?

By default, Mail Goggles is only active late night on the weekend as that is the time you're most likely to need it. Once enabled, you can adjust when it's active in the General settings.

Hopefully Mail Goggles will prevent many of you out there from sending messages you wish you hadn't. Like that late night memo -- I mean mission statement -- to the entire firm.

A Family Story from Southie

This reader is a contemporary of the author of this compelling memoir of growing up in South Boston in the turbulent 1970s. Having grown up on the other side of Boston, in a working-class northern suburb, though in mostly better economic contitions, the book becomes a fascinating telling, from another point of view, of memorable events in that time and place. But the book, while in danger of having a provincial quality, contains broadly relevant themes of poverty and race in society, and acknowledges complexities in these issues not often recognized in the corridors of American power. The author grew up poor in a section of mostly-Irish South Boston, in a public housing project called Old Colony. His mother was an energetic and generous woman, who played music in bars and flaunted her good looks in the neighborhood. She, eventually, would have eleven children, all of whom would be marked for life by violence, drugs and poverty. And yet, Southie was a vibrant, insular and tightly-knit Irish-American community that the author recalls very fondly, even through repeated stories of tragedy. While the tone the author takes indicates that he doesn't think his own family's tragedies are exceptional amongst the families in the neighborhood, those tragedies do loom large and sad in the story. He lost two brothers to suicide and another to criminal violence. A third, practically his namesake, died in infancy. Another brother was wrongly accused, based on corrupt police testimony, of murder. Other family members experience various violence along the way. It is an epic story. Within the closed world of the projects, there is a code of silence about the extent of the death and destruction around them. And there is denial. When African-Americans and the government and social institutions that support them, attempt to integrate the projects, it is the fear of drugs and violence that foments opposition, despite the fact that the neighborhood is already drowning in drugs and violence. In 1974, Southie became nationally known when school desegregation and forced busing was violently opposed by Southie residents. The author shows us his family's response which is not steeped in racism, but rather in the resentment that liberals in government, press and non-government organizations would use Southie as a social experiment. The resentment, at least initially, is directed not at African-Americans, but at the police and government leaders. At times, though, this assertion sounds like Southerners protesting that the Civil War was all about states' rights. There are larger factors at work here, and the author sometimes dances around these. And yet, he does manage to get the reader to question our conventional approach to race and poverty in this country. In the end, by the mid 1990s, Southie is becoming gentrified, to the author's regret. And, again, he asks relevant questions about the rights of the poor in neighborhoods given over to larger social or economic forces. The book is troubling in almost every sense. The tale is straightforward and compelling. It is a heartfelt and revealing story. Recommended.

Because i am a loser (which i have been called recently) I watch a lot of reality T.V.
I am a big fan of most of VH1 and MTV's reality shows and i am not talking about the Hills although Lauren Conrad is fine. I am talking about shows like Road Rules Real world Challenge, I love Money, Flavor of Love, Rock of Love and so on, you get the point. Shows that portray the greed, lust, anger and hostility in people. Well I fell upon a show called G's to Gents which takes gangsters and players and turns them into gentleman. The show itself was entertaining but the finale was a blast.... Check it out

It is impossible to make the following point too early in this review: Crooked Little Vein, the debut novel from legendary comics author Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan, Desolation Jones), is not for the faint of heart. It cannot be responsibly recommended to those who are prudish or in any way upset by engorged genitalia. Fans of the Bush administration are cautioned, as is just about everyone's mother.

Yet another caveat: Fans coming to the book from a heavy comics background may be disappointed by the fact that there's nothing particularly revolutionary here. Crooked Little Vein is surprisingly funny (with shades of Lamb author Christopher Moore) and crammed with more dodgy material than a package of nonkosher franks. But at heart, it's simply a hard-boiled detective novel, in which Ellis nails every trope in the canon.

Our hero, Mike McGill, is a sallow shell of a PI, short on cash and no stranger to trouble. A self-described ''s--- magnet,'' he's the kind of guy who strikes up a conversation with the man next to him, only to discover the dude's an infamous serial killer. Mike's adversary is, naturally, a shadowy figure with questionable motives: the president's chief of staff, who employs Mike to retrieve the only copy of a secret, alternative U.S. Constitution, which has been bouncing around a seriously eccentric underground circle. If the unnamed political operative is to be believed, the very fate of civilized society hangs on its recovery.

As his traveling companion and love interest, Mike enlists a sassy broad named Trix, who may not be entirely trustworthy; their relationship is that clichéd union of train-wreck guy and supremely competent woman whose attraction is never fully believable from a practical standpoint, but provides some splendid wisecracks and plenty of emotional investment. And as with just about anything hard-boiled, when the book's inevitable Big Thematic Statement emerges, Ellis shoves it in our faces with all the subtlety of Godzilla porn.

It should go without saying that ''Godzilla porn'' has not been mentioned at random. Despite a nearly two-decade career scraping society's underbelly, Ellis continues to revel in his party chest of perversities, and his first foray into straight prose reads like a collection of images he's stored up for years, deeming them too grotesque to illustrate. Either you'll be fascinated, or you'll be annoyed. It's a personal matter, much like sexual proclivities in general. But if Ellis could just ease up a smidge on the is I shocking you? pedal, he's got a bright future outside of the picture books. Vein is a perfectly acceptable addition to any slightly sadistic beach bag. Or fetish-parlor waiting room. Or tantric ostrich party. Can I stop thinking about this stuff now? B
